The Seattle Wheelchair Rugby Association funds player clinics each year, hosts tournaments, travels to tournaments, buys equipment, parts, tools for the players, pays membership fees to the USQRA, and more. This is all done on a shoestring budget, so we need your contribution. Click on Contribute! to make a gift now.
An open letter to our fans and supporters,
People think we're crazy because we enjoy hard workouts, drilling and pushing our custom built wheelchairs relentlessly. We come home tired, sweaty, calloused, and with ice on our aching shoulders.
But it's worth it!
We get to feel the exhilaration that only comes when we push ourselves to the limit and we get to work with a disciplined team to face a daunting challenge. We've each met some great athletes who have helped us in many ways, on and off the court.
The sport we're proud to participate in is an expensive one: rugby wheelchairs cost up to $5,000 each, plus countless wheel replacements and tournament costs. Fundraising keeps the program affordable for athletes who might not be able to participate otherwise.
That's where you come in.
The team is raising money by pushing around Green Lake in our rugby chairs. The total number of miles we will push as a team adds up to the distance between Green Lake and our new year-round Tuesday night practice space at the Southwest Community Center in West Seattle . We're asking our fans and supporters to support our "Push-a-Thon" with a contribution toward our $10,000 goal.
You can count on us to put 100% into this campaign so we can purchase new equipment and keep the program affordable for athletes who might not be able to participate otherwise.
Can we count on you to support our effort?
Sincerely,
Seattle Slam Players
P.S. Your contribution to our "Push-A-Thon" will support both a sport and a community. Please click here to make a gift today. We promise to let you know how it turns out when we're done!
